I LOVE wagons; but...I rented what must have been the base model in Vancouver many years ago, and it was a turd.

Honestly, is this thing any good/what are the improvements over the base?

R/T? Doesn’t look like and SRT8. Love the police wheels on there too.

Magnum SE: 2.7L V6 known for oil starvation

Magnum SXT: 3.5L V6 decent but nothing overwhelming

Magnum RT: 5.7L V8 has MDS, satisfying power band

Magnum SRT8: 6.1L V8 big big motor, big big price tag.

Depending on which one you drive, you could have been left quite disappointed. I searched for the RT specifically, the SRT8 typically goes for 2-3x what I paid.

The RT has a very good power band, but the stock motors are known for dropping valve seats. If you click on the HEMIWagon tag and go back far enough you will see the carnage that resulted. I have a newer spec 5.7L now, makes more power without the same valve seat issues. I also make a little more power out of it as well (390 vs 345hp).

Options wise, I have the Boston Acoustic sound system which I believe is the premium option, moon roof, roof racks, leather interior, and the upgraded interior which is just subtle stuff like a cover for the cup holders. No SATNAV or fancy CD changer, but that doesnt bother me.

If you want to know what sets mine apart, you can read a couple of the project log updates to get an idea of how far this build has come.

It’ll be back on the road next week. Taking the SL out this weekend. Waiting on a replacement TCM which should fix my problems.

RT, yes.

Only thing I need to change are the lug nuts because these crappy ones are starting to weaken and separate (if youre familiar with cheap chrysler lugs, you’ll know the issue well).

Hi JGrabowMSt, I have a 2005 Magnum R/T and I tried to do the same. I oredered the rims from my dealership...They are the ones they get for the Police Chargers. We tried to install them but they did’t fit. The inside rim hit the calipers in the front...the backs were ok. We tried to use spacers, but they stuck out way too far to clear the caliper, so it was just too unsafe. So my questions are: Where did you get those rims and did you need spacers? Your Magnum looks awesome! Great job! Thank you for the help!

Odd that you had clearance issues. These wheels are 18x7.5, and theres only one part number for them.

Lets figure out exactly where your problem is. Take a front wheel off when you have a chance and let me know what the part number is for the brake caliper.

Also, is your car AWD or RWD? Mine is RWD, and no, I do not have any spacers on any of the wheels. I may at some point space the rear wheels out slightly, but only up to 1/4" if I do, and only to help rear stability.

If you have SRT brakes in the front, those calipers are known to not clear these wheels. Depending on your rotor size, it may be possible to get a new bracket that can help you with the wheels, but it will likely also mean different rotors as well.

If you have a 5.7L, have you done anything to address the valve seat problems these cars have?

Ah ha! Yes! Mine is AWD...didn’t think that mattered, but yes, I can see that that would be the difference! Right & Left Caliper Part#: 5137670AB & 5137671AB. Valve Seat problems: Haven’t had any trouble with the engine at all. What part of Jersey? I grew up in Elizabeth and Bayvillle(Summers)? I lived in Union & Cranford for a while too...Living in Vermont now.

Im in Morris County, born and raised. Not far, about 30-40 minutes from Elizabeth.

The AWD cars should clear the 18 steelies, but the wheel offset is different and they do stick out of the fenders a bit. What wheels do you currently have? Stock 18s, or something else?

Im going to look up the part number, but I am pretty sure my brakes are the same. Im looking to upgrade to Baer 6 pistons though. Shes a big and heavy beast and brake fade happens quick. SRT calipers do not clear the 18" wheels at all, I know that for sure.

We currently have the stock aluminum wheels on it. The Police rim we tried to put in on it was Part#4895425AE. 18x7.5...so as you can see we were pretty disappointed and perplexed. I really do think it’s the AWD thing.

By the way, the center caps are Part# 4895432AA and the Lug Nuts 6509421AA. They are available on moparonlineparts.com:

Summit Racing has them too!

Yes, good ol’ Morris County up Rt 24! Frequented many times. I used to fly into Morris County Airport with my former boss on his jet at my old job!

Thank you for your help bud!

No problem, if youre ever in the area, give me a shout. Ive seen the police steelies on AWD cars before, but I dont know much about them because I didnt want AWD myself.
